Futuro is the last chapter of the book Neither spices nor species. Chronicle of Patagonia and at the same time a video performance. Futuro took place on the shores of the Strait of Magellan 500 years after the first circumnavigation of the earth. Today the Strait is no longer an important trade route, but an important meeting point for scientists from all over the world on their way to Antarctica. In the video-performance the artist walks through a wasteland carrying a flag in her hands which has the word Futuro (future in Spanish) inscribed on its fabric. After walking through the area with the flag, it is buried in the sand on the shores of the Strait of Magellan. The flag flies strong in the wide skies of Patagonia.
This project was carried out within the framework of the Magallanes 2020 residency, a project of the Universidad de Magallanes and the Goethe Institute in Chile.
