In Protección de los Sentidos (Protection of the Senses) Marcela Moraga performs an important human routine in a forest: cleaning. The artist obsessively cleans tree trunks, plants, stones, and soil found in the area with various cleaning tools and products (fake). She then rearranges certain elements of the forest in this newly cleaned space.
This project was specially produced for the exhibition Contaminaciones Urbanas Contemporáneas curated by Die Ecke gallery. The exhibition was presented at the Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Sao Paulo, Brazil, and later at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Santiago, Chile. Protección de los Sentidos (Protection of the Senses) has also been presented at various festivals and video screenings. 2024 was presented in the film program My Garden’s Boundaries are the Horizon organized by Maartje Fliervoet, Martín La Roche Contreras and Arefeh Riahi at De Appel Amsterdam.
